So, here’s the bit about who I am

Stockholm-based corporate & commercial photographer

My style is to mix commercial and documentary.

Commercial photography is often defined as photography that “sell things”: i.e. products. But it is also taken to mean a genre where photos are to be used for a business or publication.

Documentary photography is a style of photography that provides a straightforward and accurate representation of people, places, objects and events, and is often used in reportage.

My approach is to take photographs in a documentary way so businesses can tell unposed stories about their:

  • brand,

  • products,

  • events,

  • people, etc,

whether its on their website, social media channels, or more traditional print advertising like brochures, company reports, etc.

Telling brand stories

Marketing and media have changed – largely shaped by social media where there has been a move away from so-called traditional advertising to a more anecdotal share culture.

Photos, reels, longer form video, minimal text, that tell our network of followers what we’re doing, what we’re interested in and, ultimately, a sizeable chunk of who we are.

Documentary or editorial photography uses many of the strategies and forms that we see in social media, communicating more effectively with consumers and stakeholders.

Business photography, in the age of social media, is so much more than posed, highly-stylised work. That’s just part of it.

With the rise of social media and new forms of visual communication, I think we as professional photographers and businesses need to adapt to the challenges of communicating through photos and video.

Because photography matters

My overriding approach to photography is to find and document the art of the everyday. I’m passionate about capturing real-life stories and events. The milestones of ordinary people's lives, if you like. For the individual, this is incredibly important.

We all need to document our lives and the lives of those around because photographs help tell the story of who we are.

Like I wrote on Twitter after my father died, photographs help us hold onto life's fleeting moments. They are our only defence against time, our only evidence, sometimes, that we ever even existed.

So, when photographing for myself I also take a documentary approach, snapping candid pictures of my family, friends and anything else that catches my eye that fits into the personal projects I’m working on.

Yes, I’m hooked on documenting my personal journey with photography. So, some of this work is published here on this site as part of my ongoing visual notebook and concerted effort to wrestle back some of the narrative away from social media.

I don’t just take photographs

I also make videos for companies. I’m also an experienced writer with a background in journalism, fiction and copywriting. I also translate from Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and French into English when I need a side-hustle.

However, when not working or taking pictures, I avidly follow Liverpool FC, read French philosophy, watch pretentious movies and hang out with basset hounds. Yes, basset hounds! I've bred four litters and although I'm not one of those crazy dog show people, I am a crazy dog owner! I also love my cat (who I christened Mouse – like you do!).

If you're looking for someone to help you tell the untold story of your business, family, event, and so on, through photographs, please talk to me about how I can help you.
